About the Author
George Harris is Chancellor Professor of Philosophy at the College of William and Mary. He is the author of Dignity and Vulnerability and Agent-Centered Morality, and has contributed to The Journal of Philosophy, Nous, The Monst, American Philosophy Quarterly, Public Affairs Quarterly and other journals. He is a Distinguished Member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, a member of Who's Who in Humanities in Higher Education, and a recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment of the Humanities.

Thoughtful, Important Book

This is a really thoughtful and illuminating discussion on a really important topic. Other philosophers deal with tragedy, but no other philosopher I've seen offers as broad or deep an account of tragedy as Harris. This book is not a casual or breezy read, but neither is it any kind of mysterious piece of philosophical jargon and theory. Harris writes in a careful, straightforward style that should be accessible to anyone who wishes to think hard along with him about human lives and suffering. This is a must-read for anyone interested in tragedy.
